My name is Gulcin Keklikoglu Jabbarov, and I am from Turkiye. I have been working at sea for 16 years and currently serve as Chief Officer Master at Celebrity Cruises under an Oceangoing Master Licence. My career has been shaped by responsibility, leadership, and continuous growth.

As Chief Officer Master, my role focuses on safety, navigation, and leadership. My daily routine includes overseeing all safety equipment, leading emergency drills, and managing safe navigation during my bridge watch. I also supervise the deck department’s maintenance and closely monitor the ship’s stability. Combining my experience as a Master on container ships with the high standards of Celebrity Cruises, I work to ensure a safe and secure environment for all guests and crew.

What I enjoy most about my profession is the responsibility of leadership and the dynamic nature of life at sea. It is deeply rewarding to ensure the safety of thousands of guests while visiting some of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

One of the biggest challenges in my career was transitioning from container ships to cruise ships. As a Master on container vessels, the focus was cargo and efficiency. At Celebrity Cruises, the priority is the safety and comfort of thousands of guests. Adapting to this high-standard service environment and managing a much larger crew required growth and flexibility, but my strong maritime foundation helped me succeed.

I advocate for equal career opportunities and stronger mentorship for women at sea. Our industry becomes stronger through diversity, and women deserve clear paths to leadership roles.

To women starting out, my advice is to be confident in your skills and stay focused on your goals. Do not fear challenges; use them to grow. With hard work and a positive attitude, you can reach any rank in this industry.

The sea teaches humility and true responsibility. It does not recognize gender; it respects competence, courage, and strength of character.
