Jeena Laishram, Guest Services Associate Junior – India

My name is Jeena Laishram, and I am from India. I have been working at sea for one year as a Guest Services Associate Junior. My journey so far has been shaped by adaptability, resilience, and a passion for connecting with people from around the world.

In my role, I provide exceptional guest service by managing check-in processes, issuing cruise cards, and assisting with embarkation and disembarkation. I share accurate information about ship activities, itineraries, and ports while maintaining a professional and approachable presence. I handle guest inquiries, complaints, and service recovery to ensure high satisfaction levels. My responsibilities also include managing onboard financial transactions such as payments, cash handling, and foreign exchange, as well as administrative duties like lost and found tracking and documenting guest requests. I operate switchboard systems and coordinate with multiple departments to resolve issues efficiently, all within a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

What I enjoy most about my profession is the opportunity to travel the world and meet new people at every embarkation. I love building connections, engaging with diverse cultures, and delivering warm, personalized service while continuously learning and exploring new destinations.

One of the key challenges I have faced is managing guest complaints, especially when expectations around upgrades or compensation are not realistic. I approach these situations with patience, professionalism, and empathy, ensuring guests feel heard while clearly communicating policies and finding appropriate solutions.

If I could advocate for one change for female seafarers, it would be better support systems onboard, including flexible duties or rest options during menstrual periods. This would promote wellbeing and create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

To women starting out in this industry, my advice is to stay strong mentally and physically. Be adaptable, manage stress well, and support one another. With resilience and a positive mindset, you can grow and thrive at sea.
